Week 27 - update
· Oct 31, 07:59 PM
I extended training into the first two days of this week, and now it’s time for a little rest, recovery and boredom. It’s getting to be that time of year. Recovery comes when I’m a little less wiped out than I was after, say, a double OD. So I get antsy a little quicker, but with the heavier load in terms of intensity and spenst, the rest is just as important.
Monday: Run 1. One of those days where I really didn’t want to go out the door, but was glad I did. I felt much better when I got back. But after about 2 minutes of core strength, I decided it wasn’t that important…
Tuesday: Skate 1.75. Intervals in North Rim. 6, 8, 8. Definitely didn’t have the snap, pop, power, whatever you want to call it that I had on Friday with Zach. There was some talk of doing a fourth, but we were all kinda feeling the effort and not needing any extra. But it was good to get in an effort skating that wasn’t the Century TT. 1.75 Run w/spenst. Went with Marshall and Zach, did some really silly XC running drills for warm-ups. They mostly made me glad I was never a runner. The spenst seems to be getting a little better though. Gotta keep after it.
Wednesday: Off. And not enough to do. I gave my bike it’s yearly cleaning, baked bread, prepared for trick-or-treaters (current tally: 0, expected tally: 0) and got in a lot of reading. And I’m bored. My legs need another day at least, so tomorrow is going to be a day where I need to find something to do.
Thursday: Off
Friday: Skate 1.8. Pretty easy. Body feels good, but not sharp. Not surprising to be a little flat after the rest.
Saturday: Classic 2.2. TT in North Rim. Very much like a ski race. It was hard. Lars skied away on the last climb, none of us could really respond. I was dead to the world going across the top the last time. Good practice though. I think one more practice TT, then it will be for real. PM – Spenst 0.8. Legs were not real sparky, but the job got done. I’m sticking with it for another 3-4 weeks, and looking for a payoff in December and January.
Sunday: Skate 1.7. A little tired from 80s party last night, which is not surprising, but I actually feel pretty decent.
Not bad for a recovery week. Saturday night will be the last late night for a long time I think, so that was fun and done.
