Two Weeks · Nov 11, 08:43 PM

What a difference a week makes. When I left, we were seeing highs around 50, clear skies and snow up around 8000 feet – really, quite nice for October. Now, we’re looking at winter. There are 18 inches (and counting) up at Bachelor. Tumalo Langlauf Club is getting after the grooming on Century, which means my appeals for a groomer have been answered. There’s not too much else to ask for right now. Well, snow in West Yellowstone sure would be nice.

My week in Silver Star went better than I could have hoped – even without considering how quickly it all came together. The grooming was really good (it certainly didn’t feel like the first week of November), I got in a lot of volume and even a couple of really solid hard efforts. I’m especially pleased with how the travel and recovery have gone on the return. I’m ready to get after it again. And as a super-added bonus I don’t have the swine flu!

Now it’s time for the focus to shift. Most of the work has been done and it’s time to get fast. The first race, a 1.47km classic, is two weeks from today in West Yellowstone. We follow that up with a 15 skate and 10 classic the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. To say these races (and the ones in Bozeman and Silver Star the following weekends) are kind of a big deal is … accurate. It’s time to get ready.

Parting shots from the top of Silver Star. Monday morning, about 3 hours before getting on the plane. Did I mention my life is pretty awesome sometimes?
