Sunny Sun Valley · Feb 4, 01:39 PM

There are some days where it is really nice to be a skier. Today was one of those days. We skied the Billy’s Bridge and Prairie Creek Loops, which were both new trails for me. Despite warmer than normal temperatures (well into the 30s in the afternoon), the snow here remains quite cold. Hard to imagine a nicer day.

On to the racing update. I have a pretty good schedule falling into place for the rest of the winter. This weekend is the Boulder here in Sun Valley, then on Monday I head down to Aspen for a SuperTour classic race on Saturday, followed by the Owl Creek Chase on Sunday. It looks like the race organizers have figured out a way to make the Owl Creek even tougher than normal. They’ve revamped the finish, so that instead of 5km of golf course skiing we finish with a lap of the 5k from Saturday’s classic race. Nothing like a tough 5k to finish off one of the harder races out there.

After Aspen is when things really start to pick up. I have a little down time in Bend, then it’s off to the Birkie, some OPAs and the National 50k/Tour de County over the course of a nice five week swing. That trip should finish off with a day in Boston where I should get to meet Peak Temple (though I still think of him as Thor) before I return to Bend.

Right now I’m just excited to be back on the road. I did the Methow Valley (like Sun Valley without the elevation) SuperTours immediately after Nationals and planned to go to the midwest, but got stuck in Bend with a cold instead. Two weekends off from racing made me realize how much I miss it. Here’s hoping that February and March treat me a little better than December and January did.
