A little bit of where I’ve been and what we’ve done this fall. Click to make them bigger, hover for the description.

For three weeks in West Yellowstone, Bozeman and Silver Star I did a pretty terrible job taking pictures…
The Gray Wolf. West Yellowstone. It was about -31° F outside. These were the skis that were in play for Marshall, Evelyn and me in Bozeman. The sun sets on the Bridger's. My little pocket sized camera doesn't really like to focus in low light.

But I’ve been a little better about it in Alaska.

A plane lands. Marshall waxes. Skiing at Kincaid.Long morning shadowsGlen Alps. Freezing fog sitting in the trees.About 1.5km from here to the finish. I won't be checking out the view on Monday.Sunrise ... 10:40 or so this morning

Day one of US Nationals was today – the skate sprint. I skied a bit, watched qualifying live and then stayed up to date with live timing through the heats. The Tour de Ski torrent is still downloading (I could go off on the frustrations of Clearwire Wireless Broadband, but that’s a different post), there’s no streaming coverage of Nationals and Universal Sports no longer plays XC, so it’s been a slow day in terms of watching ski racing.

Nationals starts for me on Monday. There’s a 15km skate on a course that is much more legit than anything they threw at us last year. It spends the first km and a half being awkward and transitiony while it gets to the hills. Then it goes up. And up some more. It’s good skiing and should make for good racing. Wednesday is a 30km mass start classic (nice to have a 30 back on the schedule at January nationals) and then next Friday is a classic sprint. And that’s my week of racing up here.

  1. Best of luck (and skill, and speed, and endurance)today and for the rest of the week!
