Three weeks since my last post? I am getting pretty close to my threatened posting frequency of once a month, but maybe I can start doing better. No new pictures this time around – I haven’t done anything very interesting in the last couple of weeks, but there has been some training to report on.

The last two training periods (from June 1 on basically) have been very solid for me. 60 hours for the June block, and I’ll be close to 70 for the July one if all goes as planned this evening and tomorrow. Even still, that puts me about 30 hours less than this time last year. Given how last year’s training worked out through the winter, I’m not too worried about that. I’ve been trying hard to make sure that I’m not getting too tired or run-down during the training periods, even at the end of them. I was not firing on all cylinders for intervals this morning, and the resting is scheduled to start on Monday, so it’s really just a question of playing it workout-by-workout through tomorrow. If I feel good heading out the door I’ll get my workouts, otherwise I’m turning around and heading back home. But enough about today and tomorrow.

The good (or at least important) workouts over the last couple of weeks have been the Smith Rock TT (or 11.5 minutes of grinding uphill), almost winning a stage of the CCC with Evelyn and Marshall (the group reeled us in 5k from the finish, our hour and a half head start wasn’t quite enough), watching the CCC crit (a workout for my voice only), skate intervals in Tetherow, a skate/bike OD double this week (great until I shredded a tire with 25 miles left in the ride) and this morning’s intervals in North Rim.

I’d say I was good for 4 out of the 6 workouts (the middle four), fine or a little below average for Smith Rock and tired this morning. That’s not too bad. Last year I tended to be pretty tired the whole last week of these blocks. I was faster at the Level 1 test than ever before a few weeks ago, and PR’d by 1 second at Smith Rock. So it doesn’t look like I’m being hurt by a little less.

Ashland is two weeks from today. That should be a good test.
