After the beautiful week of spring in Putney last week I came down to Cambridge to do some painting work on my grandparents place. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Give me a little city time, guaranteed break from training and some time to catch up with the friends I neglect in the greater Boston area. There was the idea of making a little money too. Well, this week is not last week. So far I’ve had cold and windy, cold and windy and rainy, but today is a new low. Snowy. Big wet flakes. This might be as big a storm as Boston has seen all winter, I don’t know what the records are on that.

Painting today? I’m just not that tough.

I got Ben to come over and give me some help the last couple of days, and we managed to get two walls (the high priority ones) scraped. Not too bad as far as scraping paint goes, but it was still enough to make me want to rent a pressure washer the next time I do any serious painting. The forecast for tomorrow is promising, so hopefully we’ll be able to throw some paint up then. After that I don’t have too many plans. Probably stick around down here to watch the Beanpot, then head back to VT? I think I’ll come down here end of next week again and try to give a quick hello to Robbie Dapice – on a quick break from Iraq.

Not too many further thoughts on next year yet. Leading canditates right now are Bend, Bozeman, Hanover and SMS (alphabetcially of course).

I think today I’ll go for some urban touring, and see if I can spend all the money I don’t have getting outfitted for some of the weddings I’ll be attending in the next few weeks here. Why do we have to get dressed up for these things? Maybe the more pertinent question is, why don’t I have any clothes for these things?

  1. There are still tickets available for the Seattle game next saturday. Or did you score tickets to the home opener?

Just in case you end up visiting (or moving to) Bozeman this summer, check out this and this.

This former fills up very fast and is capped at 250; the latter isn’t so popular. I even got Audrey to register for the Ridge Run!

I only did the Jim Bridger last year cause I didn’t register in time for the Ridge Run.

  2. Let’s re-cap for just a minute the deapths of misery, loneliness, and meloncholy I seem to remember occurring during your previous stint at SMS. On MANY an occassion I recall your lamenting that, “This sucks. I’m surrounded by immature, not very bright, constantly giggling, 14 yr olds all day, and except for when I train, my alone time is severely limited. Add to that, the fact that there are no women my age, and the social options are basically nil, means that, when all added up, this place rocks!!”

Sounds like a winner of a situation to me. There were some reasons you gave up SMS last time…and I don’t think they were souly to do with the irresistable siren song of MWSC.

Am I wrong in reading into your longing for social (ie. female) options in your prior post??

Also, in case you forgot, you lived in Hanover for 4 years already. It’s too safe.

Further note/comment – I’m sure that you’re somewhat loathe to give up your current (quite nice) Madshus/Alpina connections. However, undeniably, if you can swing it, and are unopposed to the equip. switch (and, as we all know, equipment IS what wins races), The SFT is still THE best game in the country in terms of financial, race, and gear support (plus, the new Salomon boots are friggin PLUSH…they now fit like the Alpinas of olde you love so much).

    2 cents submitted.
