On Snow Intervals
· Oct 7, 08:03 PM
Sunday morning was scheduled to be skating intervals on Awbrey Butte. The forecast was for mixed snow and rain overnight; the reality was more like rain changing to snow. I heard rain every time I woke up in the night, but come morning, it wasn’t raining any more.
I don’t consider myself a wimp, but that’s just too much to roller ski through. So instead of rolling intervals we compromised with skiing intervals in Tetherow. On the roads. Roller ski tips and real skis makes for an interesting combination, but we made it work.
33° and blowing snow/rain mix. It wasn’t very pleasant out there. My natural hairies kicked admirably (they were a little slick on the steeper and drier sections), and all told it was a lot nicer to be banging out the intensity than to try for a distance ski.
I wish this was a picture of new snowmaking technology… not a scene I saw over and over again Sunday-Tuesday.
