Some pictures of all the scenery I’ve been enjoying during my first real training block of the year.

As you can see, June has been pretty nice to Central Oregon. We started off with seasonally cool temperatures and were treated to fresh snow during the USST’s on-snow camp early in the month. (You know, it’s not really enough to have groomed skiing in June, it’s much better to have hard wax as an option too.) Crust skiing was spectacular for a few days, and now things are warming up pretty fast. Summer arrived in full force about a week ago, and that means it’s about the time of year where I start getting up early to beat the heat and stop checking the forecast, because it never changes.

Today I’m at the start of a recovery week, and I’m pretty excited for it. The last three weeks have been pretty good training. I hit just over 60 hours with a couple of intensity sessions in there. Nothing too major, but it’s nice to be feeling good training and for my body to feel used to it again. I’m trying to be conservative, a little cautious and not dig any big holes, while at the same time doing enough to get faster and not just rest myself into shape. The first block seems to have gone okay. I was pretty tired during and after yesterday’s workout, but I feel better today, and the upcoming recovery week is just as important as the training was for the last three. That means I get some couch time!
