Halfway point - Week 26
· Oct 28, 07:02 PM
Sunday I’ll be officially half way through my training year. It’s not a particularly momentous occasion, just something worth noting I guess. At that point I can do the hourly projection vs. the realistic projection and see where things shake out. It might be interesting.
Monday: Classic 2. Divecka’s/Woody’s loop on skied in tracks. Mostly still untransformed, which was nice. Where it was transformed the snow was pretty lousy. Tough workout on the arms too! Skate Roll 1.2. Just cruising.
Tuesday: Morning off and I lay around reading. Makes me feel lazy and a little lethargic. 1.75 Run. 3×8:30 bounding up the backside of Awbrey. Hard, and got very hard. Good though, and I felt okay a little while after, wouldn’t want to have tried number 4 though!
Wednesday: DP 2.25. Pretty flat, HRs pretty low, felt good. Run 1.4. Focus was on Spenst, but I had to run a ways to get there. Classic day, feeling much more explosive than during intervals, which is good. Legs not nearly as battered as last week.
Thursday: COCC class 1.2. Jog up and back, core focus while there. Skipped the leg strength in light of yesterday. Still not sure if I’m going out this afternoon.
Friday: Classic 2. Threshold/TT workout in North Rim. 4 times a good rolling loop. The terrain out there is the most like ski racing I’ve ever done on roller skis. Skied it with Violett, we were each allowed one acceleration per lap, and the first two the base pace was around threshold, and more like race pace on the last two. It was hard. We beat on each other pretty well the last time around. All in all pretty much what I was looking for.
Saturday: Skate 1.8. Team practice, 17° when I went out the door … and people are still watering their lawns. Did a few speeds, which felt okay, but my back got a little tight. 0.8 Spenst. Skate specific drills in the afternoon, doing some telemark jumps too this week. They hurt.
Sunday: Classic 4.7 OD. Good OD, got to depletion, but not too much beyond. Legs were definitely tired after the last two days, but things went well. I spend a few hours watching the Pats (who look like a pro team playing college teams right now) and lying in bed, but I’m feeling much more normal now. Good.
Week in Review. Definitely an encouraging week. The intensity sessions are starting to feel better, and I’m recovering a lot better from them than I was earlier in the month. One more interval session on Tuesday, then I’ll get a couple days off before starting the final training block to bring me to West Yellowstone.
YTD: 19.1/54/439.65
So let’s see, that splits out to about 880 for the year. Last time I split it out was 10 weeks ago, and I was at 950 pace. So I’ve given up 35 hours from that pace in the last 10 weeks. Not terribly surprising. I think I’ve got a reasonable shot at 750 for the year, but I’m not terribly concerned.
