Corvallis Camp · Oct 12, 04:36 PM

I have a couple of complaints about our camp this weekend in Corvallis. 1. The OSU/Stanford game was at 4pm on Saturday which made it impossible to train twice and go to the game. I chose training. 2. I got a little poison ivy (or oak or sumak) on my legs. Beyond that it was fantastic. We had perfect weather, a sweet house and some really good training. I would have been happy to have camp continue on into this week.

We hit McKenzie (about 2000’ in 14 miles – with 4 very steady miles at 5-6% according to mapmyride) on the way over on Thursday. It made for a solid DP, though hadn’t really anticipated how it would feel to not extend my elbows much beyond 90° for most of the ski. It made them … sore. There were a few controlled burns along the way up, but it was clear enough up top that we spent 10 minutes hanging around stretching. Not bad…

Friday and Saturday were the interval days for me (the tough kids did three or four sessions from Thursday through Sunday), and I was more than happy with the workouts I picked. Long classic intervals on Friday (3×15) and some shorter harder skate ones on Saturday. It was a huge relief to feel good both days, as the second day of race weekends has been a problem for me the last couple of years. Right now that doesn’t seem to be an issue, I’d like to keep it that way.

We threw in some easy afternoon workouts in the sun on new terrain which made for a pretty good time all around. Next time maybe the Ducks (excuse me, Beavers, I did have an orange shirt ready to go) will be playing at 6 or 7 and our cheering for Chris Lieto at the Universal Sports website will push him one step higher at Hawaii… But that will have to be next year.

  1. umm…Beavers
