2004 All Over Again? · Oct 17, 03:43 PM

I can only hope so.

Living on the left coast makes watching live sports a little different. The same time difference that makes it nearly impossible for me to watch the Pats play the whole early game (I’m out training at that point on Sunday morning), makes it possible for me to watch post-season baseball without having to consistently stay up past my bed time. That’s not necessarily a good thing.

Monday and Tuesday were just painful to watch. For a team that’s supposed to be all about OBP and making pitchers earn their outs, most of the lineup seemed all to happy to take bad swings at bad pitches early in the count. The result of course was a lot of easy outs, losses to two pitchers who aren’t that good, and now they’re down 3-1.

Octobers of 2003 and 2004 were some of the most emotionally stressful times of my life. It’s hard to describe the angst that comes with being a Sox fan in the post season, either you understand or you don’t, but the last couple of nights have been rough. I want to turn off the TV and not care. But I can’t. 2004 may have got rid of the “1918” chants in the Bronx, but it didn’t erase the stress of the playoffs. Beating the Angels was too easy. It wasn’t stressful. It wouldn’t be the Red Sox if it wasn’t stressful, but in the end it’s easier to deal with a 2-1 loss in a well pitched game than last night’s shellacking.

Anyways, I just cut my fingernails in anticipation of a long 4 hours tomorrow night and again this weekend. You gotta believe.

  1. So, what I read in this morning’s NYT.com should get you off the couch, yes?
